Making filter for custom-shape Bokeh effect
In the old days, if we wanna make a nice picture of bokeh with custom shape, we can only use paper or cardboard to make a custom shape aperture. Taking the advantage of the 3D printing technology, we can print the custom shape aperture as a durable filter, which can be installed on the DSLR lens or even on typical digital camera. Since 3D printer can easily print small shape as the aperture, we can print filter for much complex shape, and we can use lens with smaller aperture(of course it is much cheaper).
I have just build the first trial product, and i hope i can refine and perfect it with further adjustment made on the filter frame. Also, I wanna make the a series of filter with different shape.
1st trial
On the first trial, The diamater of the filter is 67mm, and the shape diameter is 10mm. The camera used is a Canon 600D, with a 18-200mm sigma lens. The result is not as goog as expected. After consulting some expert in photography, the reason that cause this failure can be conluded as followed:
1. The shaped aperture on the filter is too small, mush smaller then the size of the light sensitive components of the camera. As a result the scope is of the imape is limited to the size of the shaped aperture.
2. The filter doesn't filt the lens, a better way to do this could be fitting the filter to the lens hood, but not the filter mount.
