Project Background:
During the usage of shampoo, people often find it hard to fully utilize the last bit of shampoo. The common solution is to add water, which often ends up over-liquefying the shampoo.

Project Objective:
To find a better way to fully utilize the final portion of shampoo.

Project Key Processes:

  • To develop crucial skills, we sent 1-2 members to all six workshops .
  • To build group-morale , we had a warm-up exercise on the “Visually Impaired Case” (in addition to the one completed in class).
  • To come up with potential problems to tackle, we had a group meeting where participants together came up with 9 problems in total.
  • To come up with possible solutions, we had a group meeting where we together came up with 3 possible solutions.
  • To finalize the solution and presentation, we had a group meeting.

Important Contributions:

  • Sebastien:
Organizer of Meetings and Development of Group Morale.
  •
  • Ada, Claudia, and Jovita:
    Building Paper Prototype.
  •
  • Chris, David, and KK:
    Filming Demonstration Video.

Proposed Solution:
We came up with 3 possible solutions in total. The whole group together contributed to the development of these solutions.

  • Solution A: Use an Edible Water Bottle design.
  1. Proposed by Jovita.
  2. Shampoo itself being the container automatically solved the problem of shampoo sticking to the container.
  3. Environmentally Friendly but complicated to Commercialize.
  4. Stimulated Imagination of other solutions.

  • Solution B: Make a Bigger Opening at the top of the bottle.
  1. Proposed by Sebastien.
  2. With a bigger opening, we can easily put our whole hand into the container and take out the remaining shampoo.
  3. Easy to Commercialize but not User-Friendly enough.
  4. Basis of Solution C

  • Solution C: Additional Lid at Bottom of bottle.
  1. Proposed by Ada
  2. Most remaining of Shampoo is left at the bottom. By opening a lid at the bottom, users can easily take out the remaining shampoo.
  3. In addition, there are a lot of refilling shampoo package in the market, but people don’t seem to buy them often because it is inconvenience to refill the bottle
à With a big opening at the bottom, it provides convenience to refilling of bottle.
  4. Easy to Commercialize and User-Friendly.

After group discussion, we agreed that our final proposed solution is Solution C.

Can you demonstrate this by building a prototype and have the design tested in real life situation?
