Sportit- Spot it Sportit.

1. What social issue / problem will the project tackle?
Sportit is a sports buddy matching platform. The idea came from problem of failing to match with suitable friends to do sports. We first browsed the popular CUHK student community – CU Secret Facebook page, found that lack of opportunities to do sports and problem of finding suitable sports buddies were quite prevalent among students. Furthermore, we found a useful Public Opinion Survey on Physical Exercise Participation in Hong Kong. And we found for teenagers aged between 12 to24, there are only 17.1% of them do sports alone. Moreover, to find in-depth opinion from potential users, we did focused interviews with sports team members and coaches. In the interview, the interviewees expressed their concern over the problem of finding sports partners. And also, they pointed out some aspects of problems in finding partners:  hard to find people sharing same interests, people have different level in skills, the forms of doing sports people prefer are different, etc. All their opinions are the functions we design to include in the application.
2. How is the project different from other projects addressing the same social issue / problem?The threat we are facing is keen competition in the market. These applications have been promoted to the market for quite a period of time, therefore their promotion and user basis are wider than our app. Also, the threat is to secure large user basis to sustain the long-term development. However, we are different from them as we have our unique selling point and distinctive market position. Our application focused on how to match the sports users perfectly according to their sports preference, level of skills and gives users freedom to negotiate about the details of their sports date before meeting. The opportunity we can is based on newly designed functions which are our competitive edge. And with our members’ background relevant to sports, we can introduce the application to potential users to test our product.
3. Who will benefit if the project is implemented? 
The individual users are composed of people who are interested in sports. No matter they are professional sportsmen or just a newbie who wants to experience how the sports is like. They can find suitable partners here by using the functions of filtering the matching pool. And they can actively select the events or the users they want to do sports with.  Universities are a place with lots of teenage students, who have ample time and different sports teams and associations. Partnership with these student associations can bring stable and large user pool.
Sports teams are unit with usual need of recruiting members and organizing sports training. Therefore, the application we provide can help them to recruit suitable sports members for their team or training. There are quite a number of sports events in Hong Kong such as Marathon. These organizers need to recruit large number of participants which can be done with our application as our users are all sports lovers.
