週「宜」市集 FlYEE Market

Sunny Passion Programme

The meaning of FlYEE Market

-It is held once a month on a Tuesday late-afternoon

-Pronounced the same as 'flea market' with the '-ea' replaced by 'Yee' of Wu Yee Sun

What does the FlYEE Market include?

1. Stalls (simple set-up without use of electricity)

- The stalls serve as a platform for Wu Yee Sun students to exchange goods and inspiration, they can sell anything as they like, such as handmade products, ready-made food and second-hand but useful goods

2. Centralized goods collection box

- Collaborate with Crossroads Foundation, a Hong Kong based non-profit organisation which takes goods that Hong Kong no longer wants and redistributes them to people in need, locally and internationally

- Calls for donation of goods that are needed the most according to the organisation by placing a box in an eye-catching area

Advantage of centralized collection system:
Owing to the fact that donors are normally asked to deliver their goods to the organisation, people may not be willing to do so because it is time-consuming even if they have goods to be donated. The organisation will offer pick-up service only if there is a great amount of goods. So, if we collect goods using a centralized system, it guarantees a larger number of collected goods from all CUHK students and staff. Therefore, the goods can be picked up by Crossroads on a regular basis

Benefits

(i) For students

1. Boost creativity and unleash potentials

-Acknowledge their own strengths and inspire one another by selling DIY products or anything they can think of

2. Entrepreneurship

-Have a taste of running a small business and it can be a meaningful experience for those who aspire to starting their own business in the future

3. Ultilize the ample space in 圓夢台

-By setting it as the venue, they can fulfill their dreams as the name suggests

4. Sense of belonging to Wu Yee Sun (esp. non-residential students)

-Unlike other non-resident hall activities which are one-off, it is held regularly once a month, so, it encourages non-residential students to be involved in college activity more often

(ii) For the society and the world

5. Reduce wastes and landfills (Go Green)

-The more we can utilize those goods which are ready to be disposed (eg. unused or second-hand goods during the period of hostel check-out), the more we can protect the environment

6. Social and even global responsibility

-Goods are donated to the needy in both local and global context

-Donating those goods to the underprivileged families may be a blessing for them by reducing their financial burdens
