Executive Summary

Problem Statement
In 2023, it was noticed that wastepaper ranked number 2 among the major categories of Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) in Hong Kong, made up 20% of MSW. Throughout the years, despite slight fluctuations, the number kept around the same and was significant in which actions should be done to dealt with the issue. Hence, it is important to raise the public’s awareness towards paper recycling and to reduce paper usage in the long run.

Proposed Solution
To raise the awareness, Yeecycle consists of a group of year 4 students planning to organize workshops in making seed papers from wastepaper. The target audience mainly focuses on youth, especially peers around us. In the upcoming months, the group will first organize a workshop in Wu Yee Sun College, aiming to spread the importance of recycling with peers. After that, the group will conduct a family activity at a community centre, hoping to bring the concept to the public, especially to kids.

Impact and Value
Paper is made from trees and trees are grown from seeds. In making the seed paper, the group hope to spread the importance of the “paper cycle”, how it is made and how we can contribute back to the environment. Moreover, during workshops, the seed paper made will be in the form of gift card, hoping that the awareness to environmental issues will be spread among friends and family and also, transforming the love from words to plants through growing the plant. Making seed paper might seems like a small step, yet the group hopes that everyone can take action together and live a green life in their everyday lives.
