Project Title - Donatify : Making Donations Easier

Objective(s):
The objective of this project is to establish a digital platform that connects donors around the world with people who need donations while keeping the identity of those receiving the donations anonymous to prevent any financial insecurity.

(1) What social issue / problem will the project tackle?

Nowadays, computer and mobile manufacturers are making their devices more compact. Even though this is a good move from a portability perspective and technical aspect, it sacrifices the repairability of these devices greatly. To make matters worse, software support of these devices is much shorter compared to corresponding hardware support.

Thus as a consequence, a lot of these electronic devices end up being disposed of by the user just because they want to upgrade to the latest model. In the same context, many underprivileged individuals do not have proper exposure to electronic devices and internet at large and thus are missing out on a great opportunity to grow. This is where our project will play a major role. It will create a bridge between the donors and individuals who need donation by creating a digital platform where they will be able to connect.

Moreover, our platform will have a dedicated delivery system to collect donations from donors and at the same time, a delivery system to deliver to individuals who need donations. This logistical approach helps our platform to be ergonomic and helps expand our mode of operation to a larger audience all over the world.

(2) How is the project different from other projects addressing the same social issue / problem?

This project is unique in the sense that there are not really many competitions out there. And for the ones that exists, here are some of the key points where we stand out:

1. We use our own delivery system to collect and send donations.

2. We collect the donations from the donor's doorstep.

3. We repair broken devices before they are sold.

4. We make use of devices that are thrown away to earn profit.

(3) Who will benefit if the project is implemented?

Our project will provide great value to the society. Firstly with our project we expect waste of these disposed electronics to massively decrease which will allow efficient allocation of resources and create a massive positive impact for the environment. Secondly, it will create an efficient platform for people who are willing to donate, allowing donations to be made easier. Thirdly and most importantly, it will give unprivileged individuals to receive electronic devices at a really cheap price (free of cost in some cases)and thus will open a whole new world of opportunities to them like education, communication etc,.

A unique and creative idea to help those who may not have the ability to bear a new device. Although connecting donors around the world is a great idea, collecting the donations from the donor's doorstep is an idea which a lot of labour so we think that you may start the proposed idea in Hong Kong or even CU first. Also, transparency is a problem which should be aware of, for example, how to gain confidence form the public.

It's really an impressive idea as this project can reduce electronic waste and allow the underprivileged to receive these devices for the likes of education and self-enhancement, thus conserve the environment and enhance the quality of life of people at the same time. However, it might be better to find more sources of revenue to support the logistic expenditure (as the services of SFexpress is not cheap and electronic devices are usually quite heavy)

Very good and meaningful idea! But I have some questions about that:
1. I doubt that it is not easy for repairing the broken devices cause I did not see any key partners you mentioned in business model canvas that could help you solving this technical izzue. May I ask how would you deal with this problem?
2. With the increasing number of mobile phone companies or digital devices retail stores trying to recycle the old devices when the customers buy the new one, and WEEE recycling project offered by HK government is runing for 2 years, how could you sharpen your idea so that people are more willing to join your project than the others?
