C!ab hosted a mindfulness music therapy workshop during Sunny Living Week. We recruited a music therapist to conduct games and practices to improve the mental well-being of students. Special thanks to Hong Kong Music Therapy Limited, the C!ab committee members, staff, and all participants who made this event a success. The workshop offered an opportunity for participants to relieve their stress and share their feelings. By listening to relaxing music and engaging in mindfulness practice, participants were able to express their present emotions and create meaningful artwork.
Under the guidance of the music therapist, students explored different musical instruments and practiced mindfulness to soft music. Firstly, participants played games using lollipop drums and introduced themselves one by one. An improvised performance ensued as the music therapist and students played music together with guitar and percussion instruments. After that, students listened to light music, engaged in mindfulness practices, and made image associations. Lastly, participants drew images that represented their inner thoughts with oil pastels and colored pencils, thus creating their unique and meaningful artwork.
The workshop provided a platform for personal growth and self-discovery for all participants. They not only had the opportunity to explore their musical abilities, but they also found ways to alleviate stress and express emotions, enhancing their mental health.
